About me I started my art career with formal training in Fine Art then, out of necessity, moved into the teaching profession. Since retiring in 2008 I have returned to fine art with renewed passion. My work has taken many new directions and I am more productive than at any time in the past. I have a particular interest in geometry, grids and perspective. My constructions have developed as an expressive form of these themes. This work represents a large part of my output but I also enjoy painting. Like many local artists I gain inspiration from the Sussex Downs and the built environment of Brighton and Hove. In some of my newer pieces I bring together these different strands using perspective grids and tessellations to create unusual reliefs. More recently I have completed a series of paintings based upon sights and experiences of Nepal following an extended trip there in October/November 2014, prior to the devastating earthquake. I have shown my work every year since 2009 in the Brighton and Hove Artists Open Houses. Kontakt Stuart Smith: www.stuartsmith.portfoliobox.me |
